Since I started using the profile picture in which I'm wearing my 'Summer Meadow' hat and muffler (along with a very young Busby wearing his matching neck warmer!) on social media, I had a lot of enquiries from people who wondered if there was a hand-knitting pattern for the hat and, if not, whether I would write one.  Having never written a pattern for hand-knitting before, it was a daunting prospect - even though I'm a keen hand-knitter - as it's a very different process from writing a pattern for the knitting machine, on which I'd originally made the hat!

After encouraging feedback from a couple of very kind test knitters, I have recently started translating what have just been ideas in my head and scribbles in a notebook into patterns.  After the 'Summer Meadow' hat (the pattern for which is currently being revised to include a beanie option - for those who don't like knitting deep ribs!) my next design was the 'Sheep Gaets' neck warmer - which utilises yarn held double and a simple, repeated cable pattern to keep out even the worst Shetland gales!  The design I am currently working on is a triangular shawl, which will be a great learning project for adventurous beginners who want to try out different stitches and patterns.
